Kids closet makeover

With the new baby on her way we needed to make room quick. My girls are going to share a room and baby will have her own. The closets in their bedrooms were very basic and really not a lot of room. In order for them to share a closet let alone a room that’s pretty small in size we knew we had to make it more accommodating to fit extras. Here’s the before and don’t mind my 5 yr olds dirty carpet

And this would be the after….

I really didn’t play a huge role in this one besides knowing what I wanted it to look like, picked out the wood and did some painting.
Hubby did all the hard stuff, cutting the wood and building it all. We considered buying a closet organizer from lowes but they’re so pricey and the wood they use is cheap laminate. We did ours for probably around $100! I got the baskets from Marshall’s I believe around $12 each.
We’re trying to get the girls room done first before we start in baby’s room and we just finished painting it this weekend. Still much more to do like getting a dresser to redo and some curtains. Wall decor will have to come slowly but surely.

Future projects

I’m sure I won’t be able to get to these projects until I start my leave in 6 weeks because they require much sanding, staining and painting. Which isn’t going to be a quick project. And first priority will be the rocking chair that was picked up from a yard sale for $40!!

My plan for this is to sand and stain dark to match baby’s crib. Lots of work and hand sanding for this piece 😳 let’s hope I’ll have it done before she’s here. Up next is the wood high chair which she won’t be using for quite a while so not a huge priority. Picked this up for 45 on craigslist. They’re hard to come by and when you do they’re so expensive!!

My plan with this is to sand (ugh) stain dark then go over with white chalk paint distress it and put a top protective coat over that. Definitely will need it especially on the tray. I’ll post or at least try lol when I have these finished.

Rustic baby shower BBQ

As I mentioned in my growth chart post my sister just had her shower almost 2 weeks ago. It came out beautiful! And involved many family and friends help from food to bbqing to setting up and to decorating. Here are a few pics I got on my phone as all the pics are on my good camera that hasn’t been uploaded to the computer yet.

I got all the flowers from Costco and highly recommend them to anyone planning on using flowers as centerpieces. So affordable and they were beautiful. In fact I went to my sisters just a couple days ago and they still look beautiful. My husband had found wood on the side of the road and I saw it sitting in the back of his truck and thought OMG if you cut that up I can use it to put my centerpieces on. And they came out awesome. He even stained some because the bark on the outside had fallen off some.
The troft and metal pans we borrowed from a friend of ours which worked perfect for the beers and bottled waters. I didn’t get a picture on my phone of all the food before the cake came out but It was amazing. My brother in laws mom put in a lot of work. And the BBQ boys did too.

I had a friend of mine make the cake and she did amazingly. I sent her pics similar to what I was going for and she did just that. Brother n laws mom had a friend of a friend that did the cupcakes and they were a huge hit. Overall baby shower was great! Only a couple more weeks and my nephew will be here!!
Oh and the invitations I sent out were these.. They fit the occasion just right. The bottom is missing but for a good reason with personal info on it

Almost forgot the diaper cake
I made. This was before it was finished I forgot to get a pic of it all done only thing added really were 3 smaller all different colored burlap flowers on the middle layer in the front. And as for the “K” on top is what my nephews name starts with.

Wooden growth chart

I can’t believe it’s seriously been a year since I posted anything!!! I have done many projects but just never got around to posting them. Partially because my internet is so slow and I have to do most of my internet surfing on my phone. It doesn’t help that I updated my phone and deleted all my pics on my phone to make space. They’re on my computer so eventually when I get around to it I’ll post my older pics.
So for now things are going to be posted completely out of order from recent to older.
This project was just finished 2 weeks ago in time for my sisters baby shower. I wanted to make them something to keep track of baby’s growth which was Pinterest inspired but with my own twist.
It was fairly easy, I picked out the wood at lowes only $11. Hubby picked up the stain and clear polyurethane. I got the numbers at walmart in the mailbox section. Of course I couldn’t have done this project without hubby, I thought I would only need him to measure out all the lines for me but I needed him more than that. Being that I’m 7 months pregnant after staining one side of the wood the fumes started getting too stong. The polyurethane was even stronger so I had him do that completely. He marked off for me in pencil where to put my lines. I wanted the wood to have a slight groove( indentions) for each line which was probably
The most time consuming. I used the end of a small paint brush and just pushed really hard to let it penetrate the wood then after i was done with that i painted each line with regular black wall paint.
Enough blah blah blah here it is…

I know being that the wood is darker and the paint and numbers are black it doesn’t stick out too much. I considered using white but black over ruled. We plan on making another one for our baby and girls soon which may end up looking completely different. Thank for stopping by!!
